Brighton provide update on Zambian star Enock Mwepu after he reportedly collapsed from a suspected heart attack.
Brighton have released an official statement regarding Enock Mwepu’s health, providing an update on the Zambian.
Several reports circulated about Mwepu earlier in the day claiming that the former midfielder had been rushed to a hospital in his home country, Zambia.
The Premier League club have now come out to address the reports regarding their former player and current academy coach.
Brighton gives Mwepu update
Brighton have addressed the reports about Enock Mwepu collapsing as a result of a heart attack through a statement on their official website.
“The club can provide the following update on Enock Mwepu, in response to media reports,” the statement began.
“Enock was taken unwell in Zambia and is currently undergoing precautionary checks. Our medical team is in communication with the hospital to assist if required,” Brighton further cleared things up.
The club would like to thank the many well wishers for their messages and support. Neither the club or Enock wish to provide any further comment at this stage,” the statement concluded.
Mwepu joined Brighton in the summer of 2021 but the midfielder was forced to retire from football in October 2022 after being diagnosed with a hereditary heart condition.
The 25-year-old was given a new role by Brighton at the start of 2023, put in charge of the club’s under-9s as an academy coach.
It is unknown if the latest reports of Mwepu collapsing while driving from a possible heart attack are true, especially as Brighton neither confirmed nor denied them.
