Nigeria Super Eagles' Awoniyi to battle Mbeumo, 4 others for PL Player of the Month
The Premier League has shortlisted six players for the Player of the Month for August with Nigeria Super Eagles striker Taiwo Awoniyi and Bryan Mbeumo leading the pack.
Mbeumo in the Premier League
The Cameroonian winger, who has become a key figure for his Premier League club, Brentford, is known for his electrifying pace, ball control and knack for delivering for the Bees.
But it is his consistent and impressive performances against Chelsea that have made him a household name in the league.
Mbeumo’s journey to stardom is a testament to his dedication and talent. Hailing from the West African country of Cameroon, he set his sights on the world of football and kicked off his career at Troyes in 2016. Mbeumo walked through the ranks before he made his senior debut for Troyes in 2018.
He made 46 appearances for the club before he joined Brentford in 2019, whom he helped gain promotion to the Premier League in the 2020/2021 season to become a fan favourite.
Mbeumo and Chelsea
What truly sets the winger apart so far has been his uncanny ability to shine when facing Premier League giants, Chelsea.
The Blues, with their star-studded team, are often seen as formidable opponents but the Cameroonian seems to relish the challenge as his performances against the Londoners have been nothing short of spectacular, having left indelible marks on the Blues.
Mbeumo’s speed and agility have repeatedly caught Chelsea’s defense off guard. He has the skill to exploit gaps to deliver crosses and even find the back of the net himself as was evident again on Saturday.
The 24-year-old was at his imperious best as Brentford have now turned Stamford Bridge into their home after a third successive win.
Brentford have now won all their games at the Bridge, with the latest a 2-0 win for the Bees thanks to an inspirational display from Bryan.
He created the opener and scored the winner to take his tally against Chelsea to five-goal contributions, (two goals and three assists), his most against any team in the Premier League.
Fans will now eagerly anticipate any match featuring Mbeumo against Chelsea, knowing that fireworks are almost guaranteed. His ability to sting the Blues with his displays has left fans in awe.
As he continues to impress, not only against Chelsea but across the Premier League, where he has now scored five goals and provided one assist in nine appearances this season, the Cameroonian Bee is bound to attract even more attention, especially after his latest masterclass against Mauricio Pochettino’s team.
