Noordin Bunjo has been in impressive form of late, scoring the winner as they shocked KCCA FC in the Stanbic Uganda Cup quarter final, and was a threat again, but Asaph Mwebaze's side arrived at half time with nothing to show.

Soltilo Bright Stars registered their first home victory in four games since March 2023 to move further clear of the relegation places, and compel Busoga United further into the relegation mix with a 2-0 victory at the kavumba Recreation Grounds on Wednesday.

Heading into the game, Bright Stars were at the foot of a congested StarTimes Uganda Premier League mid-table battle, and knew victory would take them to within two points of fourth.

Noordin Bunjo has been in impressive form of late, scoring the winner as they shocked KCCA FC in the Stanbic Uganda Cup quarter final, and was a threat again, but Asaph Mwebaze's side arrived at half time with nothing to show.

Relegation threatened Busoga were happy to be level heading into the halttime interval, much to the heroics of goalkeeper Dalton Oyo who kept them in the game.

Oyo did well to deny Emmanuel Loki from a free kick moments after he had thwarted his effort from open play.

But Busoga's afternoon unraveled five minutes after the restart, when Cleophas Fiat scored only his second goal in 40 league games for Bright Stars with an easy header from close range.

The midfielder turned in Warren Buule's knock down from Bunjo's corner kick, with the Busoga defenders clueless in their marking.

Asaph Mwebaze's men grabbed a deserved second goal with 20 minutes to go, and it will be a memorable one for Bunjo who showed great composure to pass the ball into the bottom right corner finishing off his well ochestrated move for his first league goal for the club.

After securing their eighth win of the season, Bright Stars have risen to the ninth position with 32 points from 24 matches. Meanwhile, Busoga United is placed 13th with 23 points from the same number of matches.

Bright Stars will be hosting Vipers at Kavumba Recreation Ground on Tuesday, May 9th, while Busoga United will face off against Wakiso Giants at Kakindu Stadium on Saturday, May 13th.
