StarTimes revealed that about 10 million viewers watched the 2022/23 Uganda Premier League on television.

The 2022/23 StarTimes Uganda Premier League matches were watched by over nine million viewers, according to StarTimes.

While tasked to give the numbers during a Twitter Space organized by USPA, the StarTimes Director of Marketing Aldrine Nsubuga claimed that about two million viewers watched the games monthly.

“StarTimes has the biggest market share of audience in Uganda on free and pay television combined,” Nsubuga answered a query from Pulse Sports.

He dug deeper: “If you assume that at every one time, at least three to four people are watching the games [on one screen], then we’d have about 2.5 million people watching in any month; for football, I would say about 10 million watched the Uganda Premier League last season.”

Hoima leads

Nsubuga also revealed that Hoima and the larger Kitara region had more eyeballs glued to the action on the pay TV.

“That is across the country, but I can shock you that Bunyooro region has the biggest number of viewers of the league, and that was before Kitara joined the league.

“Now, we can only imagine the number now that the regions are well represented,” he added.

Since StarTimes took over, the number of televised games has gradually increased.

This season, the Chinese company launched Sanyuka TV which is produced by Next Media Services and then partnered with FUFA TV for extra matches.
