This year's Busoga Masaza Cup will have tough eligibility rules.

The 2023 MTN Busoga Masaza Cup tournament will kick off on July 8th in Bwondha Town Council, Mayuge District.

The Busoga Sports Minister, Owek. Amin Bbosa Nkono and chairman organising committee Isa Magoola Kakaire launched this year’s edition with draws that were conducted on Tuesday at the kingdom’s headquarters in Bugembe.

“Bunhole Bunanumba will be hosting neighbours Bunha on 8th July in Bwondha in the opening match,” Bbosa noted.

Eligibility

The chairman Magoola, also a FUFA executive member for Eastern Region, announced new eligibility criteria and a raft of measures that will govern the tournament.

The tournament has barred players from the StarTimes Uganda Premier League and the FUFA Big League from participating, and this time, those who previously featured in those divisions will not be welcomed as well.

"We have agreed on some changes with immediate effect,” he announced. “Active players in the first and second division league and those who once featured in any of the above divisions will not be allowed," Magoola added.

On top of that, each of the 14 chiefdoms is required to register at least five players below the age of 18 in a bid to promote the development of young talents.

The 14 teams have been grouped into four pools that have inherited local names: Kagulu, Mawembe, Bukowe and Nendha.

Holders Bukooli Namayingo are in the Nendha group with Budiope, Bunha and Bunhole Bunanumba.

Bukowe – Kigulu, Bulamogi, Bukono, Bugweri

Nendha - Bukooli Namayingo, Budiope, Bunha, Bunhole Bunanumba

Mawembe – Butembe, Bukooli Bugiri, Buzaaya

Kagulu – Bugabula, Busiki, Luuka
