Doka Mweru scored the lone goal as Busoga United edged Arua Hill 1-0 in the StarTimes Uganda Premier League matchday 1.

Busoga United assistant captain Doka Mweru says that the team had planned an early strike against Arua Hill in their Uganda Premier League opener.

Mweru scored the lone goal in the 1-0 victory as early as the 13th minute and held on to the result until the end.

The midfielder capitalized on a poor clearance by Gaddafi Wahab off a corner kick to strike in with a nonstop tap in.

“We had planned to look for an early goal to cushion us since we were away and managed to do that inside the first half,” Mweru said after the win.

Rebuilding needs patience

Busoga United has been touted as a potential relegation candidate after losing several key players but Mweru has called on the team’s fans to be patient with the rebuilding process.

“We have a young team which needs some patience and time because we’re rebuilding but the victory was important because it gives more confidence,” he urged.

Busoga will visit NEC FC at Lugogo on Friday in their second match.
