Byekwaso was confident that his team can push for a league and cup double as he seeks to emulate his predecessor Mike Mutebi who won the club’s maiden double in 2017.
Morley Byekwaso was not shy to admit that he would admire winning a double after beating Kataka 3-0 to advance to the Stanbic round of 16 on Monday evening in Mbale.
Team captain Allan Okello scored deep in the first half as Rogers Mato and Congolese striker Simon Kankonde completed the job in the second to send the Kasasiro Boys through.
Byekwaso was confident that his team can push for a league and cup double as he seeks to emulate his predecessor Mike Mutebi who won the club’s maiden double in 2017.
“When we’re given the chance to continue playing in both tournaments then definitely, we want to push and win both because we’re still vying for them,” Byekwaso asserted.
Kizza needs to work
The coach handed left-back-cum-winger Mustapha Kizza his debut on his return since joining in the January window after parting ways with Portuguese side FC Arouca.
Kizza made his first appearance in the 73rd minute alongside youngster Hassan Mubiru replacing Moses Waisswa and Allan Okello.
Byekwaso is excited by the winger’s return but says there’s a lot of work needed to improve his form.
“Mustapha Kizza has been part of this project from way back and understands it better. They [together with Okello] returned here because they wanted to win but we have to work a lot on Mustapha because he has just returned.”
Kizza signed a short-term contract that will see him at Lugogo until the end of the season.
“He needs to pick up form and energy that can help him play more games however, his ability is not in question. “
