Record champions Al Ahly will face Wydad Casablanca yet again, having lost 2-0 in the one-off final, played at the Stade Mohammed stadium, a venue Al Ahly protested against and went to the CAS but were unsuccessful.

The CAF Champions League final is back yet again, a repeat of the 2022 final but this time a two-legged tie.

Record champions Al Ahly will face Wydad Casablanca yet again, having lost 2-0 in the one-off final, played at the Stade Mohammed stadium, a venue Al Ahly protested against and went to the CAS but were unsuccessful.

Belgian Sven Vandenbroeck, the fourth coach for Wydad this season, says he is confident that the Red Devils want to avenge the 2022 defeat.

“Al Ahly will be going all out for revenge after what happened last season, so it’s vital that my squad and I remain calm and unified; I think certain individual battles will play key roles,” Vandenbroeck told Supersport.

“I am not feeling any pressure because it is logical to try and win every competition when you become coach of a great club like Wydad; I am hoping for the same outcome as last season.”

The Red Devils have been boosted with the availability of in-form Bafana Bafana winger Percy Mezu Tau, the 23-year-old who has scored four goals for the record champions, says they have no option but to win the final.

“To represent Ahly is a dream come true; they’re giants, winning 23 African competitions, including ten CAF Champions League titles,” Tau said.

“Wearing the Ahly jersey means representing the football dynasty, no matter who we face; there is only one thought – Victory because success is embedded in the Ahly DNA “ he added.

Al Ahly will host the first leg on 4th June at the Cairo international stadium before travelling to Morocco for the return leg on 11th June at the Mohammed IV Stadium.
