While head coach Leo Neiva will undoubtedly assemble the strongest possible team, particular stars will need to be at their absolute best in case they are to mount victory.
Vipers SC will need a solid first leg result in Gaborone, Botswana, against Jwaneng Galaxy if they are to be sure of progress to the next round of the CAF Champions League.
The Venoms and the Galaxy will tussle it out on Sunday at the Lobatse Sports Complex in the first preliminary round.
While head coach Leo Neiva will undoubtedly assemble the strongest possible team, several stars will need to be at their absolute best in case they are to mount victory.
Hillary Mukundane (Center-back)
For every game that goes by, Mukundane continues to be one of the most important players for the Vipers.
He is defensively colossal on the ground and in the air, dives well in tackles, is a fighter and, most importantly, an exemplary leader. He will need his 'A' game if the Venoms are to mount a good result.
Patrick Mbowa (Center-back/defensive midfielder)
Despite being a new signing, the former URA FC man has quickly established himself as a central figure to Neiva's set-up, as he has played and excelled in a couple of friendly games and the two FUFA Super 8 games.
He operated as a midfielder against BUL FC and a defender in the Maroons FC bout. He will thus be expected to be at his absolute best for victory on enemy territory.
Yunus Sentamu (Attacker)
He is arguably the most gifted player on the team and, clearly, one of the most important players, both in a creative and goal-scoring sense.
Like before, for any success, the team will get in Botswana, and for the entire season, the 'Hitman' will have to be central to it.
Abdu Lumala (Winger)
Whether he starts or comes on as a substitute, Lumala will prove a worthier Venom this season than the previous one, and most certainly against Jwaneng Galaxy.
Undoubtedly talented and has tremendously worked on his fitness, the 'electric man' has been excellent throughout the preseason. He will be needed even more this Sunday at the bigger stage.
Milton Karisa - Captain (Winger)
The captain of the troop always leads by example, and last season was the perfect testimony as he led them to the first-ever domestic double.
Karisa is a tireless worker on and off the ball, yet he contributes superbly with the goals and assists. In case of a positive result, Karisa will have to be a pillar.
