Nigerian champions Enyimba FC and Ah Ahly Benghazi produced a spectacle in their CAF Champions League qualification match.
It was hard luck for Nigerian champions Enyimba FC in the CAF Champions League against Al Ahly Benghazi of Libya.
Enyimba put in a brave display following a seven-goal thriller against Ahly in the first leg of their qualification round.
The People’s Elephants lost 4-3 to their hosts in what was an electrifying and dramatic clash on Sunday evening.
Al Ahly vs Enyimba
The visitors started superbly when Mbaoma Chijioke shocked the home fans with a third-minute opener against the hosts.
But the goal and lead only lasted five minutes as Ahly equalised in the eighth minute.
An own goal from Enyimba’s Imoh Obot handed the home side a 2-1 lead at the break.
Eze Ekwutoziam made it 2-2 just before the hour mark but Ahly restored their lead with 15 minutes left to play.
Nigerian champions won’t fall without a fight and equalised for the second time when Murphy Ndukwu made it 3-3 with just four minutes left.
Just when the Nigerian giants thought they had done enough to take a decisive draw back home for the second leg, Ahly sealed the win in added time with a heartbreaking fourth goal.
A gallant fight from Finidi George and his Elephants who will now go into the second leg next week hoping to take advantage of their home support to turn things around.
