Formerly known as the CAF Super League, the competition underwent a name change to the African Football League due to the negative experience associated with the European Super League.
CAF President Patrice Motsepe expressed his excitement for the tournament and emphasized its importance in the growth and success of African football.
"The most important thing for us is to make this exciting competition succeed,” during a press conference in Ivory Coast.
“It is going to kick off on October 20th, with the inaugural game being played in Tanzania,” he added.
The AFL is set to address the long-standing issue of inadequate prize money in CAF competitions.

The remaining teams are Al Ahly (Egypt), Wydad Casablanca (Morocco), Petro Atletico (Angola), and Mamelodi Sundowns (South Africa).
