Super Falcons overcome Cape Verde
The ninth-time African champions were forced to dig deep for the win following a shaky start in Praia.
Ivania Moreira’s eight-minute strike gave the Blue Sharks a shock lead as they looked to pull a shock.
However, two second half goals from Esther Okonkwo, who scored a brace in the first leg in Abuja, and Rasheedat Ajibade sealed another win for the Falcons.
With the win in Praia, the Super Falcons made it back-to-back victories against Cape Verde to seal progress to the WAFCON 2024 with a convincing 7-1 aggregate scoreline.
Nigerians hail Super Falcons
After the win, Nigerians took to social media to express their thoughts and feelings about the performance of the Falcons.
The fans were effusive in their praise, with some pointing out that the Super Falcons remain the only team giving Nigerians joy.
One fan wrote; “The only team that is giving me joy in the nation one love guys.”
Another Nigerian football fan said; “Congratulations to our super falcons. Nigeria joy givers.”
A third fan had this to say about the Super Falcons; “Congratulations for you our women for showing Example for Super Eagles how football,” she added.
Nigeria Super Falcons have never missed the WAFCON since its inception and will be making a 13th appearance in the 13thn edition of the competition next year.
