The 31-year-old came in handy again for United as he scored a volley that gave them a vital victory on Saturday.

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has delivered his verdict on whether Casemiro has exceeded expectations since he joined from Real Madrid.

A victory over Bournemouth – courtesy of Casemiro’s goal - left United needing just one point from their final two fixtures to confirm their Champions League return.

"Absolutely, by far," Ten Hag said, as quoted by Sky Sports, when asked about Casemiro’s expectations.

"We missed a player in the midfield. We searched, and it was not easy because there are not many in the profile whose standard fits the standard of Manchester United. We're happy we found him, and his contribution is massive."

Apart from confirming his satisfaction with the midfielder, the former Ajax manager pointed out the strengths of the Brazilian captain.

"He keeps surprising us. He's such a brilliant football player," he added.

"We know him as very good at  organization, positioning, anticipating, intercepting a lot of balls, winning duels, and being a fighter.

"Also in possession, his passing and distribution, but also finishing. Just a great football player."

Despite the slim win, the Red Devils registered a record that is not very impressive.

They have scored just 22 league goals away from home this season. The Red Devils have only managed fewer on the road across the entirety of a Premier League campaign in 2014-15 (21).

On the other hand, Bournemouth have lost nine Premier League games against Manchester United, including each of their last three. The Cherries have only lost more games against Manchester City (12) than the Red Devils in the competition.
