Celine Dion and Lady Gaga steal Paris 2024 show
Kicking things off was pop superstar Lady Gaga, who serenaded spectators with a stirring rendition of her song 'Mon Truc En Plume' - a tribute to French dancer and actor Zizi Jeanmaire.
The 38-year-old Grammy winner was the picture of elegance in a stunning Dior gown as she was joined by a troupe of dancers wielding pink feather fans.
But the real showstopper came later in the evening when the legendary Celine Dion made a triumphant return to the stage.
In her first major appearance since being diagnosed with the rare neurological condition stiff person syndrome, the 56-year-old chanteuse was a vision in all-white as she shone brightly on the Eiffel Tower backdrop.
Dion's powerful rendition of Edith Piaf's 'Hymne à l'amour' brought the capacity crowd to its feet after the Olympic cauldron was lit.
Afterwards, the 'My Heart Will Go On' hitmaker took to social media to express her joy at being part of such a special occasion.
'I'm so happy to be celebrating these amazing athletes, with all their stories of sacrifice and determination, pain and perseverance,' she gushed in a slideshow post.
The dazzling opening ceremony, presided over by French President Emmanuel Macron, marked the return of the Olympics to France after a century.
It was a vibrant celebration of unity and diversity, with a stunning display of music, dance, language and culture, featuring Nigeria led by Tobi Amusan, that captivated millions around the globe.
As the Seine transformed into a floating stage and the city's iconic landmarks featured prominently, viewers were treated to a visual spectacle that will live long in the memory.
The 2024 Paris Olympics are officially underway, and if the opening ceremony is anything to go by, we're in for a Games to remember.
