The Blaugrana have lost their starting goalkeeper for the rest of the season, but a former Manchester City shot-stopper has offered to solve their problem
Barcelona is facing a goalkeeping crisis after the news that their star goalkeeper, Marc-Andre ter Stegen, could be sidelined for the rest of the season due to a serious knee injury.
As the Catalan giants look for solutions, former Barcelona goalkeeper Claudio Bravo has offered to come out of retirement to fill the gap left by Ter Stegen.
Ter Stegen's injury leaves a void
During Barcelona's 5-1 victory over Villarreal, which saw young midfielder Pablo Torre score his first goal and braces from Robert Lewandowski and Raphinha, the celebrations were dampened by the injury to Ter Stegen.
The 32-year-old German goalkeeper, who has been a pivotal figure since joining Barcelona in 2014, sustained a knee injury that could rule him out for up to eight months.
His absence is a major blow for the La Liga leaders, as Ter Stegen has been key to the team’s success, winning five La Liga titles and the Champions League during his tenure at the club.
Claudio Bravo offers to step In
With Barcelona needing to fill the gap left by Ter Stegen, a former Blaugrana stopper has offered himself as a potential replacement for the German goalkeeper.
Chilean goalkeeper Claudio Bravo, who retired from professional football in August this year has offered to come out of retirement for a second spell at Barcelona.
Bravo joined Barcelona in 2014 and won the treble in his first campaign at the club, claiming the coveted Zamora trophy as LaLiga’s best goalkeeper during his first season with Barcelona.
After two successful seasons with Barcelona as their main goalkeeper in LaLIga, Bravo departed for Manchester City in the Premier League, before returning to Spain in 2020 with Real Betis, his last active club.
