Vipers will represent Uganda in the 2023/24 CAF Champions League, and have duly complied with the licensing requirements for the competition. KCCA who will play in the Confederations Cup have also fulfilled CAF's requirements.

The Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) has taken stringent action against 15 StarTimes Uganda Premier League clubs, including champions Vipers, for failing to meet the mandatory club licensing requirements for the 2023/2024 season.

Following the release of the FUFA club licensing action plan on April 12, 2023, a striking number of clubs, 15 out of 16, failed to meet the compliance deadline set for July 17, 2023.

KCCA FC stands as the sole club which managed to meet all necessary requirements, thereby securing their license to participate in the upcoming season.

The failure to meet this crucial deadline not only carries potential sanctions for the defaulting clubs but also threatens to disrupt the league's schedule of activities planned beyond the set date.

As per the provisions, each of the non-compliant clubs is set to be fined a sum of UGX 2,000,000 (Two Million Shillings).

Despite the bleak state of compliance, there is a silver lining as KCCA FC emerges unscathed.

FUFA's statement commended the club, stating, "KCCA FC has met all the minimum Club Licensing Requirements, and therefore qualifies to get a License to participate in the Uganda Premier League."

Recognizing the need to provide clubs a chance to rectify their mistakes, FUFA has extended a grace period up to Monday, July 24, 2023.

Clubs have been granted this additional time to submit their necessary requirements and settle their financial penalties.

However, FUFA's warning was clear, stating that "clubs must clear the financial sanctions as per category two," signifying the urgency and necessity of this compliance.

The fate of the 15 defaulting clubs, including Vipers, hangs in the balance until July 26, 2023, when the Club Licensing Committee is expected to announce their decision.

The announcement will clarify which clubs have fulfilled their licensing requirements and are therefore eligible to compete in the upcoming StarTimes Uganda Premier League season.
