Chelsea have secured the signature of the 19-year-old defender from Lyon, and will loan him back to them until the end of the season
Chelsea has taken their spending under new owner Todd Boehly to £533 million with their latest capture of French wing-back Malo Gusto from Lyon.
Chelsea sign Gusto until 2030
Chelsea announced the signing, believed to be worth around £26 million, via Twitter and also made the terms of the deal clear.
The 19-year-old France U21 international is set to sign for Chelsea until 2030, but will also spend the rest of the 2022/23 season on loan with Lyon, before joining the Chelsea first team at the start of the 2023/24 season.
Gusto is the latest in Chelsea’s array of youngsters signed under Boehly’s watch and it is believed that the full-back will provide them with many years of quality service as competition and cover for Reece James.
Malo Gusto looks destined for big things
Gusto has been a standout player for Lyon this season, starting 15 matches for and his importance to the side, even at such a young age, can be seen in Lyon’s reluctance to allow him leave in the middle of the season.
Gusto is an energetic, attack-minded right wing-back who is capable at right-back and right centre-back in a back three.
His penchant for getting forward and contributing to the attack has seen him draw comparisons with ex-Barcelona defender Dani Alves.
