Brentford recorded their third win in a row at Stamford Bridge to leapfrog the Blues in the Premier League table

Brentford recorded a shock win over Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, which now means that the Blues have won only two matches at home since February.

Despite Chelsea’s impressive recent form, including a 2-2 draw against title favourites just last week, the Blues were shocking in front of goal and allowed Brentford claim a famous win in the West London derby.

Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo was unplayable as he scored and provided an assist for the other goal, scored by defender Ethan Pinnock as Brentford enjoyed a sensational afternoon in London

How it happened

Brentford has the better start at Stamford Bridge, but Chelsea quickly got a foothold of the game with winger Noni Madueke hitting the crossbar with a ferocious effort early in the first half.

Chelsea dominated the rest of the first half as they saw chance after chance go begging, with defender Marc Cucurella coming closest to scoring for the Blues.

Despite Chelsea’s dominance, both teams went into the break level at 0-0, with Brentford clearly the happier team to go into half-time.

Chelsea continued to threaten after the break but were unable to turn possession into penetration as Brentford held firm at the back to deny the Blues more clear chances.

Brentford then shocked their hosts just before the hour mark as centre-back Pinnock rose highest to power home a header from Mbeumo’s deep cross to give the Bees a 1-0 lead.

Chelsea stepped up their attacking efforts and came close to an equaliser on numerous occasions, with poor finishing once again being the Blues’ Achilles heel.

With Chelsea pressing forward for an equaliser, Brentford exploited gaps left behind the Blues, as Neal Maupay and Mbeumo took advantage of goalkeeper Robert Sanchez’ decision to go forward for a corner kick, with the Cameroonian making sure of the victory with a simple finish into an empty goal.

The win for Brentford means that they have claimed three wins in a row against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge. The most of any team in the Premier League era.

Brentford also climbed above their North London rivals and move into 12th while Chelsea drop to 13th.
