The Blues hope to make a decent profit for another player who has barely played at Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea have agreed to loan young forward David Datro Fofana to AEK Athens.
The 21-year-old Ivorian will spend the season in Athens, with the Greek club holding an option to buy him permanently for €20 million (£16.8 million) at the end of the loan period.
Why have Chelsea loaned Fofana?
The move comes after Fofana was told he did not fit into Enzo Maresca’s plans at Stamford Bridge, seeing the forward train away from the first-team squad since the start of the season with a group of unwanted players at Cobham.
Fofana joined Chelsea from Molde in January 2023 for €10 million (£8.4 million) and made three appearances for the Blues before loan spells at Union Berlin and Burnley in the 2023-24 season.
Loaning the striker loan to AEK Athens could provide regular playing time and a chance to showcase his talents, with Dikefalos exercising their option to buy him permanently.
What comes next?
The Greek side are currently three games into their campaign, securing seven points from nine before the international break. Thet host Volos at the OPAP Arena on September 16.
