The Arsenal manager has been criticised for his post-match claims after Sunday’s draw at Stamford Bridge.

Former Chelsea defender Frank Leboeuf has criticised Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta for his post-match comments following the 1-1 draw between the two London rivals

What Arteta said

Arteta claimed his side dominated the match and deserved to win, a statement Leboeuf deemed "disrespectful" towards Chelsea.

“We are disappointed with the result because we think we deserved more," said the Arsenal manager. We scored the first goal and we’re very disappointed with the way we conceded, nowhere near the standards, and we have to fault ourselves for that.

“We put Chelsea on the ropes, dominated them, full of energy, and a lot of players were willing to score the goal to win it, but for very little margins, we were unable to do it.”

The match was a tightly contested affair, with both teams enjoying periods of dominance.

Gabriel Martinelli opened the scoring for Arsenal, but Pedro Neto's sensational strike levelled the score for Chelsea. Both sides had chances to win, but ultimately, a draw was a fair reflection of the game.

What Leboeuf said in response to Arteta’s claim

Arteta’s post-match comments that Arsenal were the better side and deserved all three points sparked a strong reaction from Leboeuf, who accused the Spaniard of lacking respect for Chelsea.

"I don't like Mikel Arteta's comments, they were quite disrespectful towards Chelsea," said the 1998 World Cup-winning Frenchman. "It was a fair result. You're not dominant just because you had two chances at the end. That guy has to respect others in order to be respected."

Leboeuf, who won two FA Cups and a League Cup with Chelsea, maintained that the Gunners were never truly superior.

"Arteta said they were dominant, they were better than Chelsea and deserved to win the game. Since when? I saw the game and would admit it if it was the case, but it's not true. They were never better. I don't like this attitude."

What next for Chelsea and Arsenal?

Chelsea, Arsenal and Nottingham Forest all head into the international break level on 19 points from 11 games. The Blues are away at Leicester City after the hiatus, while Arteta's men welcome high-flying Forest.
