The summer signing for Chelsea spent just 20 minutes before he walked away against Borussia Dortmund in a friendly.
English Premier League outfit Chelsea could be without one of their summer arrivals heading into the new season following an injury to Christopher Nkunku.
Chelsea suffered the blow after the Nkunku was forced off during their pre-season friendly against German side Borussia Dortmund.
Chelsea were held to a 1-1 draw by Dortmund, with Marius Wolf and Mason Burstow the scorers for both teams in the entertaining clash.
Nkunku at Chelsea
Christopher Nkunku officially joined Chelsea from RB Leipzig after the Premier League side agreed to trigger his £51m release clause.
He made his mark at RB Leipzig before leaving, helping the club in the Bundesliga last season scoring 16 goals and providing six assists in 25 appearances.
Nkunku will be looking to transfer that form to Chelsea who will need him to show the brilliance that made them go all out for the former PSG youngster as they look to bounce back from a disastrous 2022/2023 season.
Injury vs Dortmund
The two teams stepped up preparations ahead of next season with what was Chelsea’s final game of their 2023 US tour.
Chelsea started on a bright note at the Soldier Field in Chigaco but were forced into an early substitution when new signing Nkunku went down.
The 25-year-old lasted just 20 minutes before he was replaced by Mykhailo Mudryk.
Pochettino gives Nkunku update
Meanwhile, Chelsea’s manager Mauricio Pochettino has given an update on Nkunku’s injury situation.
Pochettino revealed during his post-match press conference that the forward was taken off after a discomfort on his knee.
According to a report by the club’s website, the Blues boss hopes it is not a big problem.
'’The doctors are checking him and I hope it is not a big issue,” Pochettino said. “He fell in the action which was maybe a penalty and he feels something in his knee but we hope it is nothing big.”
“We hope he can be back quickly with the team. We need a few days to assess him,” the new boss added.'
