Record Crowd watch Arsenal win
No fewer than 59, 042 people were in attendance to watch the Gunners demolish their neighbours, a new record for a game in the Women’s Super League, WSL.
Arsenal’s team displayed an excellent offensive brilliance that proved just too good for Chelsea, inspired by Alessia Russo.
The former Manchester United forward was the tormentor-in-chief as she scored two of the goals to lead the hosts to a convincing victory.
Beth Mead opened the floodgate of goals as she finished an outstanding team move before Johanna Rytting Kaneryd’s equaliser gave the visitors hope.
However, there would be no denying Arsenal the win over their city and title rivals when Amanda llestedt restored the lead before Russo netted the first of her brace to make it 3-1.
The talented Russo then wrapped up the proceedings at the Emirates with her second and Arsenal’s fourth with 16 minutes to play.
Tough weekend for Chelsea FC
Arsenal’s comprehensive victory over the Blues wrapped up a difficult weekend and black Sunday for everyone at Chelsea.
Earlier in the day, the Men’s team made it back-to-back defeats following a 2-0 loss to Everton at Goodison Park.
Mauricio Pochettino’s men were hoping to put the performance and result against Manchester United behind them against the Toffees but ended up on the losing side again.
For the Chelsea Women, the defeat ended an impressive run of 18 matches across the competition, a streak that ran into last season.
But unlike the men’s team, which sits 12th in the PL, Chelsea’s Wome remain at the top of the WSL, but are now tied on 22 points with conquerors, Arsenal.
