Barcelona's wantaway midfielder is the latest name to be linked to Chelsea as they search for a key midfield cog

Chelsea's search for a midfielder that has already seen them sound out Brighton's Moises Caicedo, Tottenham's Yves Bissouma, and Juventus' Weston McKennie has now reportedly led them to the doorstep of Barcelona's Franck Kessie.

Kessie desperate for a move

Barcelona's Ivorian midfielder has been a source of incessant transfer rumours this season, with Chelsea joining Inter, AC Milan, and Napoli in the pursuit of the midfielder who only signed for Barcelona in the summer.

Kessie’s move to Barcelona has been fraught with disappointment and frustration for the 26-year-old midfielder who has struggled to break into the first 11 for the Catalan giants following a free-transfer to Barcelona from AC Milan.

Few starts and little impact on the team means that Kessie is rumoured to already be looking for a way out of  Barcelona, and Chelsea could offer him a solution.

Chelsea desperate for a midfielder

Potter’s men have already seen the addition of Mykhaylo Mudryk, Benoît Badiashile, João Félix, and Noni Madueke in the January transfer window, but Chelsea have already made it clear that they have no intention of closing the door to Stamford bridge just yet.

The Blues have been in hot pursuit of a combative, box-to-box midfielder that will complement the set up they already have.

Having lost out on signing World Cup winner, Enzo Fernandez, Chelsea have sounded out Caicedo, McKennie, and Yves Bissouma, but they have been met with brick walls and outrageous player valuations that have caused them to look at other targets.

Kessie fits the Chelsea situation as he is desperate to leave his present surroundings and would cost a fraction of what the other players Chelsea have in mind would.

Should Kessie make the move to Stamford Bridge, he will be following in the footsteps of Ivorian greats like Didier Drogba and Salomon Kalou to represent the Premier League giants.
