Nigeria and Super Eagles forward Chidera Ejuke is Sevilla's first summer signing and the club is banking on him to light up LALIGA.

Sevilla have made their first big signing of the summer, snapping up Nigerian forward Chidera Ejuke on a free transfer.

The 26-year-old Super Eagles star arrives at the Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan Stadium after a successful loan spell at the Belgian giant Royal Antwerp last season.

Who is Ejuke?

Ejuke is a right-footed attacker born in Zaria, Nigeria, and began his European career with Valerenga in Norway as a teenager in 2017.

He made 59 appearances and scored 15 goals over two seasons at the Norwegian outfit before joining Heerenveen in the Netherlands, where he had a prolific 2019/20 campaign with 10 goals and six assists that attracted interest from CSKA Moscow.

Despite being primarily deployed on the left wing, Ejuke, who is also a Super Eagles player with eight caps, has played in various attacking positions throughout his career in Europe, displaying his versatility.

What will he offer Sevilla?

After his unveiling ceremony, Ejuke wasted no time in outlining exactly what Sevilla fans can expect from him in the upcoming LaLiga campaign.

"As a player, I like to have the ball, dribble, be direct and score goals," the versatile forward told reporters at his unveiling. "I like to help the team achieve its aims."

Those qualities were on full display during Ejuke's loan stint in Belgium, where he racked up five goals and five assists in 21 starts for Royal Antwerp.

The Nigerian international's impressive underlying numbers - including an 85% pass accuracy, 80.3% accuracy for long balls, and 83 completed dribbles - caught the eye of Sevilla's recruitment team.

Consequently, Sevilla’s Director Victor Orta does not doubt that Ejuke's well-rounded skillset makes him the perfect fit for Garcia Pimienta's side.

"He presses well out of possession, and we had to move quickly because he was free," Orta explained.

The Super Eagles star had 95 touches in the opposition box last season and also won 131 duels, 11 tackles, 118 recoveries and 12 interceptions

"He tackles, he has pace, he dribbles, he gets into the box - we are really happy to have him," Orta added.

Sevilla fans will be eager to see Ejuke hit the ground running next season as they look to improve on their 14th-place finish in the 2023/24 LaLiga campaign.

And with the Nigerian's blend of creativity, goal threat and defensive work rate, the Super Eagles star could prove to be a crucial addition as Garcia’s men target a return to Europe.
