Chelsea finally announced the signing of Christopher Nkunku from RB Leipzig after agreeing to pay his release clause and his arrival is exciting for many reasons.
Yet another big-money signing by Chelsea but one with huge upside. In this piece, we look at 3 reasons why the Blues have brought Nkunku to the club.
Chelsea confirm Christopher Nkunku signing from RB Leipzig
1. Proven goalscorer
Nkunku guarantees goals, whether as a main striker, winger or as the second striker, he offers a significant goalscoring threat that Chelsea have clearly lacked in recent years.
With 58 goals over the past two seasons, including being named Bundesliga Player of the Year in 2022 and Golden Boot winner in 2023, the 24-year-old is sure to figure prominently in the scorers' chart next season.
2. Versatility
Nkunku can play in several positions and be just as effective. He can play either as the central striker, on the wings or just behind the main striker and his versatility will offer new boss Mauricio Pochettino several solutions in attack next season.
His immense technical ability allows him to fulfil different tasks in attack and perform at a high level, something Chelsea have lacked since Eden Hazard left the club.

3. Creativity
Nkunku is as unpredictable as they come. A player who can change the direction of a game in an instant, something the Blues have not had for years. He is a great goal scorer as well as a top-level creator.
Over the past two seasons he has contributed 29 assists which means Chelsea are not just getting a goalscorer, they are getting a master created as well, a player who can make something out of nothing.
On paper this looks an impressive signing. He looks like the perfect fit for Pochettino’s high-pressing ultra attacking brand of football and he can only improve.
This is surely a signing that should fill Chelsea fans with hope heading into the new season.
