Super Eagles star Samuel Chukwueze was not afforded a single minute on the pitch as AC Milan fell to Liverpool's might

Nigeria’s Samuel Chukwueze was left on the bench for the entire 90 minutes as Liverpool came back from an early setback to record a comfortable 3-1 win over AC Milan.

A goal in the third minute of the match from Christian Pulisic gave AC Milan an early advantage, but the Rossoneri were quickly brought back down to earth by the Reds.

Goals from Ibrahima Konate, Virgil van Dijk and Dominik Szoboszlai helped Liverpool overcome the early goal and allowed them to start their Champions League campaign with a bang.

How it happened

Liverpool enjoyed their third consecutive win against the Rossoneri thanks to a spirited fight-back. Milan took an early lead through Christian Pulisic, who finished clinically after a clever touch from Alvaro Morata. Liverpool struggled initially, with Mohamed Salah striking the crossbar, but gradually gained momentum as the match unfolded.

The Reds equalised in the 23rd minute when Ibrahima Konaté headed home from a Trent Alexander-Arnold free-kick after Cody Gakpo was fouled.

Liverpool pressed forward, with Salah hitting the woodwork again, and Virgil van Dijk gave them the lead, marking his 50th UCL appearance by heading in Kostas Tsimikas' corner for his third goal in the competition.

Milan goalkeeper Mike Maignan was forced off with an injury early in the second half, replaced by 19-year-old Lorenzo Torriani, and despite some strong saves from the young goalkeeper, Liverpool found a third goal when Cody Gakpo sliced through the Milan defence, setting up Dominik Szoboszlai, who finished off the post to secure a two-goal cushion.

Liverpool held on comfortably, with Tammy Abraham failing to take advantage of a rare Alisson Becker mistake.

This victory helped the Reds bounce back from a domestic defeat to Nottingham Forest, while Milan's poor form continued with only one win from their last five matches.
