Samuel Chukwieze got off the mark for AC Milan, but still had to watch his his side lose to Borussia Dortmund powered by Karim Adeyemi and Jamie Bynoe-Gittens
Super Eagles forward Samuel Chukwueze scored his first goal for new club AC Milan, but it was not enough to save the Rossoneri from a crushing defeat at home to Borussia Dortmund in the UEFA Champions League.
Chukwueze scored AC Milan’s equaliser just before half time after the home side went behind to an early Marco Reus penalty, but a dominant second half from Dortmund ensured an easy win for the Germans.
Further goals by youngsters Jamie Bynoe-Gittens and Karim Adeyemi gave Dortmund all three points against AC Milan and left them on the brink of qualification for the second round.
How it happened
The opening minutes were filled with drama as AC Milan were handed a penalty after only six minutes when Emre Can handled in the box.
Olivier Giroud stepped up to the plate for the home side, but he saw his effort saved by Dortmund’s Gregor Kobel.
Almost immediately after Giroud’s miss, Dortmund were handed a penalty of their own when Jamie Bynoe-Gittens was brought down in the area by Davide Calabria.
German icon Reus stepped up for Dortmund and dispatched his penalty expertly, rubbing salt in Giroud's and AC Milan’s wounds.
The sides would go into the break on level terms, however, as Nigerian forward Samuel Chukwueze scored his first goal for AC Milan with a brilliant finish to make it 1-1 at half-time.
Parity did not last long into the second half, as Bynoe-Gittens scored after 15 minutes of the restart to hand Dortmund a 2-1 lead.
The points were all but assured soon after as Adeyemi doubled Dortmund’s lead to set back any hopes AC Milan had of a comeback.
The loss leaves Milan at the bottom of the Group of Death and on the brink of early elimination from the UEFA Champions League.
