None of the sides could find the target after battling in a sunny atmosphere on Wednesday.

Nairobi City Stars and Kakamega Homeboyz shared the spoils from a goalless Football Kenya Federation Premier League (FKFPL) match at Kasarani Annex.

The first half saw more chances created than the second half by both sides, but none could find the target and claim a win.

An early chance for Homeboyz came in the second minute, but a collision between Felicien Okanda and Steve Njunge – just outside the box - forced the referee to blow the whistle, and City Stars, who were under siege, were awarded a freekick.

City Stars finally made a first attempt at the Homeboyz goal, but Farouk Shikhalo was all alert to deal with an effort struck by James Mazembe from a promising spot in the sixth minute.

A combination between Kelvin Etemesi and Mazembe almost breached Homeboyz’s defense in the 11th minute, but the former could not find the target – at almost close range and ended up sending his effort over the bar.

City Stars kept asking serious questions of Homeboyz’s backline but were unlucky to get any goals from the chances created. As Homeboyz were pinned, Robinson Kamura had to show his leadership skills by rallying his teammates to organize and contain the opponents.

Timothy Muganda’s interception in the 33rd minute proved to be a key moment that saved City Stars from almost going down. Homeboyz’s Okanda weaved his way from the right flank and delivered a dangerous cross into the box, but although Muganda made the block, he conceded a corner that the away side could not grind a positive outcome.

In the 56th minute, an injury scare hit City Stars camp after their captain, Kennedy Onyango, went down with what initially looked like a serious injury. Luckily, after intervention from the medics, he was able to resume action.

Onyango’s scare came just after Ediwn Buliba was lucky to come out without an injury following a serious collision with an opponent.

City Stars made two changes at the hour mark when Dennis Oalo and Mazembe were withdrawn and Andrew Kisilu and Newton Ochieng came on. On the visitors' side, Enock Agwanda was brought on to replace Shummah Moses.

The deadlock was almost broken in the 74th minute when Homeboyz – after a clever team build-up – entered the City Stars box but were denied by the woodwork and Buliba. Okanda’s effort hit the post, and as he was about to score from the rebound, Buliba did well to keep the ball from crossing the line.

Few chances were created in the closing 15 minutes of the game as both sides settled for a barren draw.
