Club chairman: 'Harambee Stars is a complete waste of time

Harambee Stars have won just three of their last ten fixtures.

A youthful football club chairman has dismissed the national team Harambee Stars as a waste of time in the wake of their humiliating 1-0 home loss to Bright Stars of South Sudan.

Migori Youth FC chairman Abdi Aziz Osman tore into Kenya’s dismal performance on the international stage and instead urged the federation to divert resources ‘wasted’ on Harambee Stars to youth development programs.

What does this team do to Kenyans other than raising expectations then causing heartbreaks? Harambee Stars is a total waste of time I dare say. Imagine the agony this team has caused over the years,” scoffed the agitated Aziz Osman

Harambee Stars have won just three of their last ten fixtures. Their latest was a shock 2-1 over Qatar in Doha last week. The other two teams the Kenyan national men’s team have beaten are Pakistan and Rwanda.

Engin Firat’s charges have lost five times in the course of the period with two draws dotting the heavily red colored results page.

Football Kenya Federation (FKF) are tuning the national team for a shot at 2026 FIFA World Cup qualification but preliminary observations do not paint a great picture. Aziz Osman does not think the attempt at 2026 World Cup is viable.

Kenya can definitely qualify to the World Cup but the youth system has to be set up well to feed the national team. At the moment we are chancing. We have not invested in youth development but expect results to magically go our way.

Until that time we will pour resources into targeted projects like youth development we will not achieve anything. At the moment putting any hopes into Harambee Stars is a complete waste of time,” the youthful club chairman concluded

Aziz’s Migori Youth failed to get promotion into Kenya’s FKF Premier League after putting up a spirited fight that ended in the play-offs as they lost to Wazito – now Muhoroni Youth.
