Buganda Regional League side Kiyinda Boys FC is one of the most stubborn teams one will ever find in the Stanbic Uganda Cup.
They are a headache to whoever they find in their way irrespective of the end outcomes of the game and head coach Simon Ddungu has attributed his side's toughness to belief and confidence.
“I am new in this job but the first thing I liked about this team is its belief and confidence,” Ddungu told Pulse Sports in an interview before adding.
“The rest of the things can be done and learnt in training and games but these boys are overwhelming confident.”
Ddunga added: “They believe in themselves that they can take on whichever team they face and this has helped us a lot, especially in this competition where the draws land you on different teams at every stage.”
In the Round of 64, Kiyinda eliminated Uganda Premier League outfit Gaddafi FC before ejecting fellow Regional League side Kigezi Home Boyz FC in the Round of 32.
“This is a competition where every game counts, and you need to be courageous enough to go from stage to stage,” the former Mbale Heroes FC head coach noted.
“Every level in this tournament is hard and it requires aggressiveness whenever you progress, in the Round of 16 a much stronger opponent awaits us but we are ready and we want to go as far as we can.”
The stage is set for the Round of 16 following the conclusion of the Round of 32 on Monday.
Besides Kiyinda, Kisugu is the other Regional League team in the Round of 16 while Bunyaruguru United FC belongs to the Third Division.
There are seven UPL sides; KCCA FC, Express FC, Vipers SC, BUL FC, Wakiso Giants FC, Soltilo Bright Stars FC, and Ondularaka FC.
Six teams belong to the FUFA Big League; Police FC, Mbarara City FC, Ndejje University FC, Calvary FC, Adjumani Town Council FC, and Kitara FC.
