The club has made two unsuccessful attempts to extend his stay at Stamford Bridge, with the player opting to explore other options.
Atletico Madrid have emerged as strong contenders for Gallagher's signature, with a £40 million bid on the table and Chelsea are open to selling the midfielder to avoid losing him for free next year.
Gallagher has been granted an extended break following his involvement in Euro 2024, with his future at the club uncertain, with reports on Friday disclosing that the midfield man has been banished from the club’s first-team.
What Maresca said
Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca has confirmed that the player will return to the club for pre-season training but acknowledged the ongoing discussions regarding his future.
The only thing I can say is I know he is in contact with the club to find a solution,” said the head coach.
“The club offered him a new contract. But this is, at the moment, the only news I received.”
When pressed on Gallagher's possible return to the first-team, Maresca said: “At the moment, there is not any update on that.
“In football, every summer, different clubs have some problems with some players and then at the end, they find a solution and everyone is happy. Hopefully the same can happen in this situation.”
