Napoli manager tells reporters why they have only made few signings in the summer transfer window.

Napoli boss Antonio Conte has revealed that they are struggling to convince their targets to join as they prepare to strengthen their squad following a disappointing season.

Conte joined the Partenopei earlier in the summer with the promise he would be backed with signings. However, Napoli have only managed to sign four players, two of whom are free transfers and none of whom are particularly exciting acquisitions.

In a recent appearance with the press, the former Chelsea boss explained the reason for their sparse activity in the transfer window.

What Conte said

The Italian tactician did not shy away from telling reporters that he needed signings. He explained that he understood the club's limitations, revealing that their finances and lack of European football for next season have made them less attractive to talents.

However, he referenced their poor showing against Serie B side Modena as evidence the team needed strengthening.

"I put myself at the club's complete disposal; I knew the situation I found and on the market, you have limits in terms of the cost of the player or the salary,” Conte said, per Goal.

“Many players don't come here because we don't play in the [European] cups. I want the best for Napoli and to try to strengthen the squad because we need it. Then I don't know what will happen; today was a nice dose of reality."

Lukaku continues to wait for Napoli

Conte’s most desired acquisition is no secret: Chelsea’s Romelu Lukaku. The 58-year-old has willingly given up information on his desire to land the big Belgian.

However, the signing is contingent on Osimhen's exit, and Napoli continues to wait for suitors to match their high demands for the CAF Men's Footballer of the Year
