The combative midfielder, who is part of the summoned 30-man provisional squad, says that the fact that the Cranes are facing neighbours Tanzania makes it even harder.

Young Africans midfielder Khalid Aucho has stressed the need for the Uganda Cranes to cautiously approach the 2023 AFCON double header against Tanzania.

The combative midfielder, who is part of the summoned 30-man provisional squad, says that the fact that the Cranes are facing neighbours Tanzania makes it even harder.

“The doubleheader against Tanzania is going to be tough; the fact that we’re neighbours makes it even tougher,” the Cranes assistant captain told Pulse Sports.

“It’s a derby, and with derbies, anything is possible, so we have to approach the game cautiously.”

Aucho was also quick to welcome the blend of youth and experienced players like Rogers Mato, Rogers Torach, and Travis Mutyaba, among others who made the squad.

He says it’s a significant step because, like it was for him, they will learn a lot from the seniors.

“The mixture of seniors and youth in the senior team is great; it’s an opportunity for the youngsters to learn from us, although they must work hard to claim their spot,” he noted.

“Playing for the national team requires you to be determined and focused, no matter the age.”

The Cranes are expected to enter camp on Wednesday 15th, March; the summoned local-based squad is scheduled to travel to Bundibugyo on Friday, where they are expected to play a regional tour game against the Kitara region in preparation for the AFCON qualifier doubleheader.

The foreign-based contingent is expected to link up with the squad in Cairo, with Uganda set to host their game at the Suez Canal stadium.

The Cranes, who have been to two AFCON editions since their return to the showpiece after 38 years in 2017, missed the 2019 edition in Cameroon.

Multin Micho’s side sits at the bottom of Group F with one point after two games, and the Tanzania doubleheader is a perfect chance for the Cranes to revive their qualification campaign.
