Al Nassr forward Cristiano Ronaldo has given a candid interview about the state of the Saudi League and his role in bringing other stars to the Middle East.
Portugal captain and legendary Al Nassr striker Cristiano Ronaldo has shared his thoughts on the Saudi League and its exponential growth in a recent interview.
Here are 3 key points from Ronaldo's interview
1. Ronaldo will not return to Europe
The Portuguese Icon has revealed he will not be returning to Europe and will likely retire after his spell in Saudi Arabia.
"I won't return to European football, the door is completely closed,' he said. "I'm 38 years old, also European football has lost a lot of quality.
"The only league that for me has a lot of quality and is at a higher level than all the others is the Premier League.
"The Spanish league does not have that great quality. The Portuguese league is a good league, but it is not a top, top league.
"The German league I think has also lost a lot. I'm sure I won't play in Europe again. I want to play in Saudi Arabia."
2. Ronaldo believes Saudi League is better than MLS
The 38-year-old also believes the Saudi League is at a higher level than the MLS which raises some eyebrows considering the fact that Lionel Messi, his great rival just moved to Inter Miami.
"I will not be going to the United States and I believe the Saudi League is much better than the MLS," he said according to Fabrizio Romano.
Ronaldo believes he is responsible for star players coming to Saudi Arabia
Ronaldo wants to take credit for the influx of superstars Saudi Arabia is now witnessing, believing that his decision to move to the middle east has had a transformative effect.
"I knew this was going to happen because in the Italian league when I went there, it was also dead and then rejuvenated.
'Where Cristiano goes, it generates greater interest and I knew it was going to be like that. I'm sure that next season more stars will come [to Saudi Arabia]."
