Fans have questioned Cristiano Ronaldo’s ability to continue playing football following Portugal’s elimination by France.

France defeated Portugal in the quarter-final in a penalty shootout and qualified for the semi-final where they will face Spain.

The game between both countries ended in a goalless draw in regular time and extra time before the penalty shootout.

The elimination of the Portuguese team in the Euro has led to fans calling for the five-time Ballon d’Or winner to call an end to his international career.

Fans react, begs Ronaldo to quit

Ronaldo, who is one of the hottest footballers in the world had an underwhelming performance as he was not at the level he has always been at the Euro 2024 tournament.

The Portuguese star failed to register any goal in regular time at the Euro before being eliminated by France in the quarter-final.

He missed a penalty which was his only chance to register a goal in the tournament in extra time during their round-of-16 clash against Slovenia.

However, he was able to score during their penalty shootout to help his country qualify for the quarter-final.

Portugal’s quarter-final clash with France ended in a penalty shootout with Ronaldo taking the first spot-kick which he scored.

His goal paved the way for others but Joao Felix failed to convert his spot-kick which led to their elimination from the competition.

Fans have now called for the five-time Ballon d’Or winner to retire from football on social media.

One fan on X said, “I love him, but I won’t shy away from saying he’s running out of steam 😥.

Another fan said, “He is old for this, he shouldn't even come to this one, it was a kind gesture from the team to bring him along, but unfortunately, he has to admit that he's past his prime.”

One fan commented, “He needs to retire and give Jota and many other young talents time to play at their prime.”

With the next World Cup getting closer, it is unknown if Ronaldo will participate in the tournament, having yet to decide on his international career.
