Cristiano Ronaldo paved the way for us — Ex-Wolves star

Cristiano Ronaldo has been credited with paving the way for Portuguese footballers to thrive in the Premier League.

Former Wolves defender, Ruben Vinagre, has credited Portugal captain Cristiano Ronaldo with opening the doors of English football to Portuguese players. 

Vinagre who now plays for Hull, claimed that Ronaldo had the biggest impact on his career.

“I grew up watching Ronaldo at Manchester (United) and I thought I’d love to play in England. When Wolves provided the opportunity of course I wanted to go there and prove myself,” Vinagre said (via The Yorkshire Post).

 “Ronaldo opened up English football for Portuguese players. Now there are a lot of Portuguese players in the Premier League and the Championship.”

During Ronaldo's six-year tenure with the Red Devils, he established himself as one of the best Premier League players. 

The 38-year-old scored 118 goals in 292 appearances, winning nine major trophies, including the highest personal honour — the Ballon d'Or in 2008.
