Lukwago asserted that works have dragged as a result of the too many processes involved in releasing and approving funds.
KCCA FC have given themselves a deadline of eight months to complete the ongoing construction of their home, the MTN Phillip Omondi Stadium, Lugogo.
According to Kampala City Lord Mayor, who also doubles as the club patron, Erias Lukwago, the Omondi Stadium, which was initially meant to be completed this year, will be done by August 2024.
"We have a commitment in our engagements with the board, institutionally and said come what may, unless an act of God happens, we must complete our stadium in eight months," Lukwago spoke in his address to the team, following the appointment of Abdallah Mubiru as head coach.

Despite the massive gap, the Kampala City Lord Mayor still feels the thirteen-time UPL champions can win the title this season.
Lukwago asserted that works have dragged as a result of the too many processes involved in releasing and approving funds.
"That should be done. We're doing our best to fast-track the processes because of the bureaucracy, as KCCA is not a one-man affair; we have to appreciate that."
"But that doesn't mean we have to procrastinate to delay processes, so we are doing our best to fast-track them."

"And, come July next year, we should assemble here and have celebrations for that milestone. It should be a huge milestone for us," Lukwago reiterated as he summed.
It should be noted that the Parliament of Uganda endorsed the construction of the 6000-seater Stadium, which was to cost Shs10 billion in the KCCA strategic plan of 2018.
Construction then started in 2020, officially flagged off in 2021 and with hope to be finished by 2023, but works are currently still ongoing.
Before the commencement of the works, funds to the tune of Shs4.1 billion were released in the first phase for the construction of the Stadium.

In March this year, KCCA officials were quizzed by the parliamentary committee on Commissions, Statutory Authorities and State Enterprises (COSASE) to explain the Shs4 billion released as they had only accounted for Shs2 billion.
In October, KCCA called for bids from contractors as it sought to implement the second phase of the construction works.
