Enyimba Left defeated and stranded in unexpected crisis in Black Sunday fallout.

Enyimba FC's recent trip to Maputo has turned into a distressing ordeal for the players following their 3-0 defeat to Black Bulls in the CAF Confederation Cup.

As reported by Pulse Sports, the People’s Elephant endured a Black Sunday and the aftermath of this loss has left the team stranded and uncertain about their immediate future.

Current Situation of Enyimba Players

According to reliable sources, the players find themselves in a precarious situation, unsure of when they will be able to leave Maputo.

Despite a rescheduled NPFL game that was supposed to take place on Thursday, it is now certain that this match cannot proceed as the team is expected to remain in Maputo until at least that Thursday.

Enyimba players have lost two of three matches in the CAFCC.

Compounding their troubles, the players have reportedly not received any estacode, which is an allowance for travel expenses, leaving them without financial support during this unexpected delay.

They are said to be currently confined to their hotel, with no clear information on whether their accommodations are secured pending their depature.

Adding to the chaos, the team's travel arrangements were poorly managed; some players arrived at the airport just 45 minutes before kickoff, and two substitutes reached the stadium only by halftime.

This lack of organisation is just another example of the challenges faced by Enyimba during what has been a difficult 2024/2025 campaign.

Earlier this season, Pulse Sports also reported that the Elephants were forced to sleep on the road for three days en route to a league clash against El Kanemi Warriors, which expectedly ended in defeat.

Match Overview

In the match itself, Enyimba's performance was disappointing. The defeat against Black Bulls marked their third match in the group stage, leaving them with just one point from three games and placing them at the bottom of Group D.

The Black Bulls capitalised on early opportunities, with Nigerian forward Rume Akporoh scoring the opening goal through a powerful header.

Following this, Fidel De Sousa and Francis Ayuba, the second Nigerian, added to the scoreline, sealing a comprehensive victory for the hosts.

Enyimba's Yemi Olanrewaju confessed he did not know enough about Black Bulls before kickoff.

The defeat extended Enyimba's winless streak to eight matches across all competitions, deepening their woes as they struggle to find form.

With their hopes of advancing in the tournament rapidly fading, the players are left suffering in silence amid logistical and financial uncertainties.

Nigerian giants Enyimba are Nigeria's only team left in any CAF competition.

With the game against Nasarawa United in Aba now a doubt, given their current predicament in Maputo, it remains to be seen how the Elephants and their young coach Yemi Olanrewaju will regroup and switch focus to the NPFL.
