As the Pilsner StarTimes Uganda Premier League awards edge closer, the battle of who will be named the finest defender of the season is hotting up desirably.
One of Vipers SC's defenders Hillary Mukundane, SC Villa's Gift Fred and Soltilo Bright Stars' Warren Buule, will walk home with the coveted award on July 6 at Sheraton Kampala Hotel.
Mukundane was one of the most consistent performers in the previous campaign, eventually guiding his team to a sixth league title.
In his second season at the St Mary's Stadium Kitende, the rock-solid defender missed just two games, playing 26 times.
He was a key part of Vipers' defence that managed 20 clean sheets in the season, the most of any team.
They also conceded just 13 goals in the entire campaign, the meanest of any team.
Meanwhile, Villa's skipper, Gift Fred, was just as impressive as his team put up a fight for the title before eventually finishing third.
He managed 27 appearances, missing just one for the entire league campaign.
His manned defence managed 14 clean sheets, second to the Vipers' 20 for the season. In addition, they only conceded 20 goals.
On the other hand, Buule enjoyed a hugely brilliant campaign, especially at an individual level, putting in superb, consistent displays.
While Bright Stars leaked in 30 goals for the season, Buule was a mainstay and was particularly colossal and exemplary.
While he played 24 times in the league, he managed ten shutouts for the entire campaign.
