At Vipers, Matsiko will face stiff competition from the already-established Ashraf Mandela for the right-back starting place.

Right-back Grant Matsiko has sent out a thank you message to Wakiso Giants FC following his move to Startimes Uganda Premier League champions Vipers.

Last season’s best right-back in the division caught the eye of the champions and was unveiled Friday afternoon after signing a two-year deal.

The former Kigezi Home Boyz defender took to his social media to appreciate the club that introduced him to top-flight football.

“Dear Wakiso Giants FC, Two years ago, you signed me as a young man from Kabale, welcomed me and nurtured me into the footballer I am today,” Matsiko posted on his Twitter account.

“I’m here to appreciate you for believing in me and embracing me these last two seasons. Thank you for the memories. PEACE.”

At Vipers, Matsiko will face stiff competition from the already-established Ashraf Mandela for the right-back starting place.

The roving right-back is Vipers’ fifth signing in the ongoing transfer window.

Giancarlo Lopez Rodriguez, Luiz Otavio Santos de Araujo Tinga, David Bagoole and Richard Matovu are the other newly-acquired players.

Having won the League and Cup double last season, Vipers will have their eyes on defending the two trophies and returning to the group stages of the CAF Champions League.
