Nabi Nasreddine’s charges won 1-0 on the day through a Shabani Djuma penalty but lost the title on the away goals rule, having lost the first leg 2-1 in Dar-es-Salaam.
Uganda Cranes assistant captain Khalid Aucho is as heartbroken as his Young African teammates after they failed to win the CAF Confederation Cup final against USM Alger on Saturday evening in Algiers.
Nabi Nasreddine’s charges won 1-0 on the day through a Shabani Djuma penalty but lost the title on the away goals rule, having lost the first leg 2-1 in Dar-es-Salaam.
Aucho, who was ruled out of the two-legged final due to suspension but was part of the squad during both games, expressed his gratitude towards his teammates for the spirited fight in the final.
In a tweet on his official Twitter handle, the combative midfielder shared an image of the runners-up medal and captioned it with a message that he appreciated his teammates.
“Not the one I wanted but Inshallah, next time, better; proud of you guys, thanks for the great fight,” Aucho noted.
The midfielder has been pivotal for the yellow and green army this season, helping them retain the league and reach two cup finals, the CAF Confederation Cup, and the domestic cup finals.
With the continental campaign now over, Aucho will now be expected to lead his charges to defend the domestic cup, where Young Africans take on Azam FC in the final.
The Azam Sports Federation Cup final will take place on 12th June in Tanga, but before that, Nabi Nasreddine’s charges have two last league games to play to wrap up the league season.
