Summer signing Timber's promising start takes a turn as Arsenal fears mount over knee injury impact.

Arsenal's summer signing Jurrien Timber could be facing a prolonged absence from the pitch due to a suspected serious knee injury.

The 22-year-old Dutchman, who joined the club from Ajax, made his Premier League debut during Arsenal's season opener against Nottingham Forest.

However, his moment of anticipation quickly turned into concern as he was forced off the field early in the second half with a suspected knee problem.

The Mail Sport reports that Timber has been undergoing a series of tests and scans as Arsenal's medical team works to assess the full extent of the damage.

While initial fears pointed towards a potential anterior cruciate ligament injury, these concerns remain unconfirmed.

There are now growing apprehensions that Timber might have suffered a significant knee ligament injury, which could potentially keep him sidelined for months rather than weeks.

This unfortunate turn of events could see the Netherlands international missing crucial matches against top-tier opponents, including Manchester United on September 3rd, Tottenham on September 24th, Manchester City on October 7th, and Chelsea on October 21st.

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta expressed his dismay at the situation, especially given the high regard he had for Timber's performances during pre-season.

"The doctors looked at him, and they were happy for him to continue, he was as well. Straight away in the first action of the second half, he made a movement and it was a bit awkward. We took him out right away, and now we have to assess him and see what he has,” Arteta said after the match.

The injury occurred in a challenge late in the first half, but Timber remarkably reappeared for the second period.

However, his tenacity was short-lived, as just five minutes into the restart, Timber went down clutching his right knee, prompting immediate medical attention and a subsequent substitution.

This setback adds to Arteta's growing list of absent players, which already includes Oleksandr Zinchenko, Folarin Balogun, Reiss Nelson, and Mohamed Elneny. To compound matters, Gabriel Jesus is also on the sidelines after undergoing a knee procedure last week.
