What Henry wants from Saka
Despite Saka's exceptional form, Arsenal legend Thierry Henry believes there is still an element missing from the young winger's game.
Speaking to BBC Sport, via Arsenal Insider, Henry has challenged Saka to improve his game further by becoming proficient at taking free kicks.
He noted that while Saka has evolved from a versatile player to a significant goal threat, adding free-kick scoring to his repertoire could elevate him to an "unstoppable" level.
Henry reflected on Saka's journey, recalling how he began his career playing in various positions, including wing-back.
“I remember when he started, he was playing wingback, wherever there was a position he was playing and doing well,” he stated.
He praised Saka's evolution into a player who is not only lively and difficult to defend against but also capable of scoring and assisting goals consistently.
“The evolution of his game is just outstanding because he has gone from being lively to difficult to defend against to assists to goals and now goals and assists - he also takes penalties.”
The former World Cup winner concluded by emphasising the importance of enhancing his free-kick-taking ability, pointing out that Arsenal currently lacks a dedicated free-kick specialist.
He believes that if Saka, who takes the corners for the Gunners, can master this aspect of the game, he will join the ranks of football's elite players like Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo, who have made significant impacts from set pieces.
“I challenged him the other day,” he added. “You need to take free kicks now. He’s got to work a bit on his free kicks.”
Saka's relationship with Henry is strong; they maintain regular communication, with Henry offering guidance and support as Saka continues to develop his game. The challenge from one of Arsenal's greatest players serves as both motivation and a pathway to further success
