Paris Saint Germain survive Champions League elimination scare after 1-1 draw away at Borussia Dortmund
Paris Saint Germain secured qualification for the UEFA Champions League knockout rounds following a 1-1 draw against Borussia Dormund at the Signal Iduna Park.
Dortmund's place in the round of 16 was already confirmed before this final group match but there was plenty at stake for PSG who needed a win to advance.
The Parisiens didn't get their win but a draw proved to be enough thanks to the result in the other game as Newcastle lost at home to AC Milan.
Borussia Dortmund 1-1 Paris Saint Germain
Dortmund took the lead in the 51st minute when Niclas Füllkrug capitalised on PSG’s sloppy play at the back by teeing up Adeyemi, who slid his effort in off the inside of the post.
Adeyemi's goal was his second of the season and threatened to send PSG out of the Champions League especially with Newcastle leading at St James' Park at the time.
Warren Zaïre-Emery revived Les Parisiens’ hopes just five minutes later, fizzing a strike past Kobel with the help of a slight deflection off Adeyemi.
Mbappe scored a second goal later on and thought he had sent PSG into the lead and top of the group but was caught offside by the finest of margins to keep the game tied.
It ended that way with PSG waiting anxiously to find out if the other result favoured them which it did as Newcastle lost at home to AC Milan meaning the Parisiens advanced on goal difference.
