Borussia Dortmund have extended 18-year-old striker Moukoko's contract until 2026
Barcelona and Chelsea were left disappointed at the announcement of Youssoufa Moukoko’s three-year contract renewal with Borussia Dortmund.
Moukoko signs new deal until 2026
Moukoko chose to stay with Dortmund despite interest from numerous European clubs, putting an end to months of speculation.
Moukoko previously had only six months left on his contract with Dortmund, which led to rumours that the prodigious talent would leave BVB for free in the summer, but a new contract means that any clubs who want to sign Moukoko will have to pay whatever toll Dortmund requests.
Even without the prospects of a free transfer, Moukoko will still garner interest from clubs who are willing to take a bet on one of the best young players to come out of Germany, despite the recent furore about his age and alleged age tampering.
Moukoko is a difference-maker whatever his age
The teenager was caught up in a scandal that accused him of shaving four years off his original age when he emigrated from Cameroon to Germany.
Nothing has been proven and clubs do not seem to mind the scandal around Moukoko, especially not Dortmund who have enjoyed the youngster’s brilliant form this season.
Moukoko has already scored six Bundesliga goals in 14 appearances for Dortmund, despite only starting eight matches, and he has also laid on four assists for his teammates.
No other Dortmund player has scored as much as Moukoko or assisted as much as the 18-year-old in the 2022/23 Bundesliga season, so BVB’s desperation to secure his immediate future is very understandable.
