Pulse Sports revealed on Friday that the boxer had been dropped alongside David Ssemujju for Idris Mukiibi and Joshua Tukamuheebwa, respectively; however, Bwogi is back on the team and reported to camp on Friday afternoon.

Famous Ugandan pugilist Shadir Musa Bwogi will compete at the upcoming Africa Continental Olympic Qualifiers in Senegal after bouncing back on the team in a rather dramatic twist.

Pulse Sports revealed on Friday that the boxer had been dropped alongside David Ssemujju for Idris Mukiibi and Joshua Tukamuheebwa, respectively; however, Bwogi is back on the team and reported to camp on Friday afternoon.

The Drama

Mukiibi’s mother stopped her son from boxing to the extent that she confiscated his passport after Mukiibi had returned from the Africa Boxing Championships in Cameroon.

Efforts to convince Mukiibi’s mum to allow the son to be part of the qualifiers in Senegal have proved futile even after UBF President Moses Muhangi intervened.

Pulse Sports understands that Mukiibi’s mother is uncomfortable with the sport and has always discouraged the son from competing, even in the Boxing Champions League.

The ABU African super middleweight champion, 26, who recently returned from Russia, where he lost a five-round fight against Uzbekistan’s Odiljon Aslonov in the IBF Champions Night, has had four professional bouts, winning all of them.

Flyweight Shafik Mawanda, the 2022 Africa boxing championship bronze medallist Jonathan Kyobe, Lightmiddle weight Isaac Zebra Ssenyange Jr. and Flyweight Grace Nankinga complete the list.

The team started their training camping at Kavumba Recreation Grounds, with the qualifiers set to take place from 9th – 15th September in Dakar, Senegal.

Bwogi, who competed at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, is bidding to make a second appearance at the Olympic Games.
