According to FIFA, African clubs spent a total of US$ 14.8 million (approx. UGX 55 billion) to buy players last year.

A recent report by FIFA has shown that Tunisian giants Esperance spent more than the rest of the African moneybags in buying players in 2022.

Despite not showing the money earned by the particular individual clubs, FIFA revealed that North African clubs heavily spent.

Denis Onyango’s Mamelodi Sundowns, AL Hilal Khartoum, and Simba from Tanzania are the only clubs that made it to the top ten from the Sub-Saharan region.

Pyramids from Egypt came second as Ahly Tripoli (Libya) and Sundowns closed the top five spenders.

Caf Champions League champions Wydad Athletic Club from Morocco and their compatriot RS Berkane who won the Caf Confederations cup were among the top ten.
