Far-reaching disciplinary measures were rolled out by the Interim Management Committee (IMC) on Wednesday, concerning the 2023 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) season.
Multiple verdicts ranging from fixture adjustments to stadium sanctions, and even responses to appeals of already sanctioned teams, were addressed by the IMC, as the season gently gravitates towards its seventh week of action.
On game week 5, hosts El Kanemi Warriors were alleged to have been guilty of security breaches as they played host to Bendel Insurance at the El Kanemi Stadium in Maiduguri.
In regards to it, the IMC had informed the Maiduguri-based club that an inquiry into the reports of "your most recent home game" had been started and that until the investigation is completed, El Kanemi Warriors will play their future home games strictly behind closed doors.
IMC gives update on El Kanemi Warriors vs Bendel Insurance case
Now, following the completion of the investigation, El Kanemi Warriors have been handed a fine of N500,000 and have been ordered to play their remaining fixtures of the first half of the 2023 season behind closed doors.
The IMC after a review of the findings of the official reports of the MatchDay 5 fixture between El-Kanemi Warriors and Bendel Insurance, found the host team to have breached Rule B13.52 for failing to provide adequate and effective security for all persons involved in the match and which led to the destruction of the camera tripod of the away team, and disagreements before the resumption of the second half.
Beyond El Kanemi's fine of N500,000 for failure to provide adequate and effective security, the club have been mandated to pay an additional fine of N250,000 as compensatory payment to Monday Odigie, the coach of Bendel Insurance.
They have also been ordered to replace the damaged camera tripod of Bendel Insurance.
El Kanemi to play Akwa United next
The seventh round of matches in the NPFL will see El Kanemi Warriors play host to 2021 champions Akwa United, with the match now, to be played behind closed doors in Maiduguri.
It becomes their first home game since their home defeat to high-flying Bendel Insurance in game week five.
The last time El Kanemi Warriors hosted Akwa United in an NPFL encounter, they defeated them 4-1.
