Trans Nzoia Falcons will now be relegated from the FKF Women’s Premier League following a third straight walkover, owing to their financial challenges

Struggling Football Kenya Federation Women’s Premier League side Trans Nzoia Falcons are set to be relegated after handing over a third straight walkover this weekend.

Falcons, who have been experiencing financial challenges for the past one year, were a no show for their match against Wadadia at Ndura Sports Complex in Kitale on Saturday, when they were to be the home side.

Having handed two straight walkovers to Bungoma Queens and Vihiga Queens, Trans Nzoia Falcons could ill afford to miss Saturday’s clash as it would spell doom for their stay in the top flight but the worst came to be and they will now face the axe, as per the rules.

“A club failing to turn up for any league/competition match shall submit a written explanation to the FKF National Leagues & Competitions Committee within forty-eight (48) hours from the date of the match,” reads Rule 3.1.7. of FKF under the Fixtures Management and Fulfilment section.

“In respect of Rule 3.1.7. above, lack of finances shall not be considered an acceptable reason by the FKF.

“In case of withdrawal and/or deliberate refusal to honour engagements, the club shall be confirmed demoted and may be subject to further disciplinary action.

“Any club in a league format that does not turn up for three (3) fixtures in a season and their explanation, under Rule 3.1.7. is not accepted in all the three (3) incidences to the FKF National Leagues and Competitions Committee, shall be suspended for the rest of the season, shall be relegated to a lower league for the next season and may face other disciplinary action.”

It means Trans Nzoia Falcons’ goose is already cooked and they are only awaiting confirmation of the bad news.

The Kitale-based side had already suffered a 5-0 thrashing at the hands of newcomers Soccer Assassins, a result that led to the resignation of coach Justine Okiring, before a 4-1 loss to Zetech Sparks and followed it up with a 4-0 defeat to Bunyore Starlets before their first walkover.

Owing to their financial challenges, the team had been forced to honour fixtures without a complete squad with their match against Bunyore Starlets seeing them field just eight players while they had 11 when they faced Zetech Sparks and Soccer Assassins but without substitutes.
