The event – the second event of the Autocross calendar – will be organised by Enduro Rally Club which had close ties with Oulanyah.
Iconic cars and the best drivers will descend on the northern district of Omoro on March 25, to honour an iconic politician and former speaker of Parliament the late Jacob L'Okori Oulanyah.
The event – the second event of the Autocross calendar – will be organised by Enduro Rally Club which had close ties with Oulanyah.
Oulanyah was a known motorsport fan and attended several motorsport events including an Autocross event organized by Enduro Rally Club in Nsimbe estate. He was also a vibrant member of the Uganda Bikers Association.
The event being run for the first time will commemorate the life and achievements of the late Oulanyah, who became the speaker of Uganda’s 11th parliament on May 24, 2021, and held office until his death in March 2022.
“The former speaker, Oulanyah was a special person to us,” Enduro Rally Club president Joshua told Pulse Sports.
“We want to celebrate his life and his legacy. He helped us immensely, both financially and by offering us guidance as a leader. He also attended one of our events in Nsimbe estate.”
“We still remember vividly that relationship, and we do not take that for granted.”
“We expect to hold several events around motorsport and also want to hold other social events to help the community and the people who were so dear to Oulanyah,” he added.
The Autocross event will feature a rally, motocross as well as a 4x4 competition, with the organizing club yet to decide on whether to hold the event in Oulanyah’s ancestral village of Lokori or a different part of Omoro.
The organisers are also planning a 35-kilometre procession from Gulu district to Omoro via the Jomo Kenyatta road, and expect to be joined by members of the Uganda Biker Association.
